Oh, Norton!
So Firefox 3 and Norton 360 2.0 and Internet Security 2008 do not get along at all . This was probably a shock to the millions who use and trust Symantec products but I have to say this, Symantec is not nice. Symantec destroyed the reputation of the brand “Norton”, making the security applications bloated... Read More...

Replacements for Spoiled Software
Came across an article about how the newer versions of software may not be better than previous versions, most of it caused by increasing feature sets and thus bloat. I am pretty particular about what goes on my PC as I need all the CPU power and RAM I can get for my weighty development tools. Rather... Read More...

Other Database Drivers not provided by Microsoft
Nice post by Joseph Guadagno about database drivers not provided by Microsoft . He missed a few though, so here they are: PostgreSQL PostgreSQL needs no introductions. Probably my favourite open source DBMS. Npgsql is de facto the ADO.NET provider. Performance and stability seems alright. PostgreSQLDirect... Read More...

Finally: CDBurnerXP 4.0 Final
Its been three years since the public last release but now CDBurnerXP 4.0 is finally available. The official website features a spanking new design too. CDBurnerXP is a freeware CD and DVD burning software for Windows, in case anybody did not know that. Most exciting new features for me, Unicode support... Read More...

Windows Live Writer Beta 3
I am typing this on WLW Beta 3 . I wrote about the first beta, which was already very usable at the time. This is the best of breed in blogging software on Windows. Quite a lot of changes for beta 3, but the best thing for me is "Publish XHTML-style markup". In other news, CCleaner 2.0 is now... Read More...

Classic ASP High Jinks: Windows Script 5.7
Its been a long time since I touched any classic ASP, apart from the odd quick fix to legacy projects. Anyway, I recently helped a friend out with a project, and was surprised to learn that there was an update to Windows Script, from 5.6 to 5.7. Wow! 5.6 shipped with XP, so its at least 5 years old.... Read More...

That Stupid Club is now CS 2007-rised
I've been putting this long overdue update off due to some ridiculous workloads and just plain laziness (which would explain the lack of posts too). But yes, That Stupid Club is now running on Community Server 2007 , only with the same stupid theme. The new skinning engine is really nice, but unfortunately... Read More...

MAME Starter Guide
What is MAME? It is an emulator intended to document the hardware of arcade games systems. Of course, for most average users it is the side-effect of being able to play more than 3000 unique games that's the important thing. Well, that's all well and good, you say, but how do I start? I'm... Read More...

Thunderbird 2.0 Beta 1
Was planning to upgrade to the first beta of Thunderbird 2.0 for the tags (I feel so Web 2.0). Enigmail has not yet been marked as compatible, and I need that for my subversive, perverse ways. Oh well, I can wait. For the ones who absolutely cannot wait to use the latest and greatest, there is a data... Read More...

Visual Studio 2005 SP1
Good: Much more responsive IDE is the biggest plus. Also, according to Scott Guthrie , it contains over 2200 bug fixes. Bad: I could not uninstall the old Web Application Project package, so I tried fiddling in the registry which led to me reinstalling Windows. Okay so its actually my fault, but I choose... Kerio Carries On
Some hopefully good news. Sunbelt has agreed to acquire Kerio Personal Firewall from Kerio Technologies and will continue to have a free version available for home users. With Zone Alarm suffering from stability problems, and Sygate getting discontinued, this could be great news. Read More...

Very Disappointing, Symantec
Looks like Sygate Personal Firewall will be no more . Knew this was going to happen, after Symantec took over Sygate a few months ago. I was a pretty loyal user of Symantec back in the late 90s but now I avoid their products like avian flu. While Norton Antivirus is just bloated, the Internet Security... Read More...

BEST BT CLIENT EVAR!
Introducing µTorrent . It is a pretty young client, and already it is gaining a groundswell of rabid users. I have been using it for a while and, barring an unfortunate tracker stat incident with an earlier version, am very pleased with it. Why? The size of the executable is under 100 KB CPU and...
