The Eagle Has Landed

40 years on, and the moon landings still fascinate and inspire, still remain unsurpassed by any subsequent human exploration, still ring with the resonance of legend.

Happy 40th, Apollo 11.

Kannagi — Musuhi no Toki

Gods of heaven gods of earth, the myriad of gods hear me!

All sins of the world are no longer.

Dispelling the shrouding clouds of tall mountains and scattering the veiling mist of low hills;

Such a proclamation, hearken!

All sins of the world are purified.

Kannagi Ending Full Song

Kannagi is a decent, if generic, anime comedy. The ending theme though, is something really special. Soothing, peaceful, even beautiful, it feels like a quiet, heartfelt prayer.

Lyrics shamelessly lifted from Anime Song Lyrics.

John Legend — If You’re Out There

What a fantastic song. Some will take issue with it being inspired by Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, but to my mind it has, like all great art, a universal message.

Its performance on Real Time with Bill Maher, where I first heard it, is probably the best solo performance I’ve had the pleasure of listening to in a long while*. So good I got his album Evolver, though I don’t like modern soul music. Unfortunately I find the album version overproduced, and so I consider this the definitive version.

* – I guess since Chris Cornell’s live @ O-baren in Stockholm bootleg. It is available on the torrents, so fire up your client, ladies and gentlemen.
