Jim Carrey – I Am The Walrus

There! I did it! I defiled a timeless work of art!

Sir George Martin’s “In My Life”, meant to be his farewell album, gathered some unlikely personalities covering Beatles songs, with Sir George producing, of course. Having Jim Carrey do a cover may seem like a joke, much less something iconic like I Am The Walrus, but… well listen for yourself.

I Am The Walrus (sung by JIM CARREY)

I guess Jim proves on this track his performance of the Might Mouse theme in the Man On The Moon was no fluke. A great set of pipes, and the progression from just plain crazy to totally deranged is perfect for the song.

Like Suicide

She lived like a murder
How she’d fly so sweetly
She lived like a murder
But she dies
Just like suicide

This is a song I have loved since the first time I heard it in 1994. I got to listen to the acoustic version on a friend’s copy of Songs From The Superunknown but was not overly impressed by it at the time (ah, youth!). I have since changed my mind and now consider it superior to the released electric version; it could very well be one of Chris Cornell’s finest moments. Beautifully poignant like a Japanese death poem, the increased emphasis on the voice lends the elegant lyrics greater weight.

Soundgarden - Like Suicide [Acoustic]

From Wikipedia: Frontman Chris Cornell was inspired to write the song when a bird flew into the window at his house. He heard the sound, and expecting a burglar, instead found the small creature suffering. He subsequently put the bird out of its misery. Cornell has been quoted saying the bird inspired him to “write a song about the harshness of love.”

CCCP14 Released

Huzzah!

This is the 2007-02-22 “Anonymous does not forgive” build. CCCP is still the best codec pack as far as I am concerned. Coupled with the ffdshow speed ups for Vorbis and H264, this is really the only thing you need for video playback on Windows PCs*.

Also: Vista compatibility, and Zoomplayer 5.0.

David Gilmour with Spinal Tap – Big Bottom

My baby fits me like a flesh tuxedo
I’d like to sink her with my pink torpedo

I have heard about this long ago, but never thought to track it down. David Gilmour, bestest guitarist ever, performing with Spinal Tap, bestest (and loudest) band ever! A legendary performance! David (Gilmour, not St. Hubbins) plays bass, and even does a little solo. Genius!

Pearl Jam Christmas Single 2006

Thanks to Laurie/Evolution from AMPJ who posted this photo. Brilliant cover, and, of course as I have mentioned, the performance is just killer.

That will be awesome as a poster (hint).

B-side: Rockin’ In The Free World (with Bono and the Edge!)

New Look, for MORE Stupid

I was fooling around with the first beta of Community Server 2007, and swiped ideas from a few websites which shall remain unnamed (“I’m a code monkey, not a designer!” is my excuse).

I guess I like the new design enough to make the effort to back port it to CS 2.1, which is a pain in the ass to skin. I guess I was getting quite sick of the old look too, which was “developed” by me from the default theme of CS by changing some colours.

As a mental exercise, I optimised the CSS files by hand, and was able to reduce the total size by roughly 10%. Common.css is now down to 40 KB from the original 52 KB.

Take a look at it on the home page

Still waiting for CS 2007.

Am I Dumb

How smart are you?

That can’t be right…

I guess its great for the old ego, but it just shows how silly these web IQ tests are.

Audioslave Is Kaput

We hardly knew ye. Well its not like it’ll make me lose any sleep, as Chris demonstrates so well in the “Unplugged in Sweden” set, he does much better on his own, and while I am not a huge Rage Against the Machine fan, the music is definitely more compelling than Audioslave’s.

So rock on, Chris Cornell. Rock on, Rage.

Dilana – Mother, Mother

Right, this is part two of a double-bill. Check out part one.

This is a rocking take of Mother, Mother by Dilana from the Rock Star: Supernova contest. What she lacks in skill and musicianship compared to Tracy Bonham, she makes up for with this incredible energy. It is probably a good thing she did not win, as playing with those old guys would have held her back.
